Adult Paint & Play Workshops

About
Paint & Play workshops are designed to offer students of all experience levels the freedom to play, loosen up and explore techniques in either acrylics or oils, without the worry of creating a 'masterpiece.' Workshops are taught by Gallery Owner & Artist Kerry Walford.

"Using my own tried and true techniques we will explore the beautiful and intuitive process of painting the landscape together. I will share a series of demonstrations using different techniques and providing my tips & tricks along with ample time for students to play & practice. Workshops will be themed, for example, Canada's East Coast, Colourful Skies, Waterfalls, etc... allowing us to delve deep and build up skills for a particular type of landscape. Each workshop will cover the fundamentals (great for beginners), and will include fresh subject matter (great for those who wish to take multiple workshops)."
~ Kerry Walford

Using a limited palette of colours students will gain an appreciation and very good understanding of colour mixing. Each workshop will explore techniques for creating an underpainting, colour blocking, layering, adding shadows, highlights and final details. We will paint & play on paper, wood panels and canvas. All art materials and supplies will be provided.

2021 Workshops Dates & Themes:

The spring theme for both our acrylic & oil workshops will be Canada's East Coast
In this workshop we will paint various coastal views including Peggy's cove, along with some of the colourful 'Jelly bean' row houses and boats from the Maritimes.

Acrylic Workshop ~ Saturdays from 10am to 12noon
The acrylic workshop comes with a take-home art kit (so that each student gets to keep their own brushes, paint, palette, etc...). These Kits come with all the goodies from our regular acrylic paint kits (paint, brushes, palettes & canvas) plus variety of painting papers along with a hardboard, painters tape & wood panels to allow for plenty of practice surfaces.
Oil Workshop ~ Sundays from 10am to 12noon
To help keep costs down for the oil workshop and enable those who are new to the medium the ability to try it out without a major investment in supplies, there won't be a take-home kit but rather access to my very own tried and true paints and brushes, along with all the other goodies; paper, wood panels and canvas!
